Dear Huntington Family -
As you may have heard, Lucy and I have volunteered to host the next Huntington Family Reunion in early summer of 2010 in Stinson Beach, California. Her parents have a home in this sweet and beautiful hamlet an hour from San Francisco in Marin County that they have agreed to let us use for a long weekend free of charge. Stinson is a wonderful town with sweet shops, restaurants, parks etc. Their house is in a sort of resort community just north of town called Seadrift. The community is nestled between the town and the amazing Bolinas Lagoon. The Bolinas Lagoon is a lovely conserved wetland with great opportunities for bird watching, kayaking, and beautiful walks (see photo to get the general idea). The house itself is built right on a man-made lagoon that provides some of the best salt water swimming, floating, and boating. The house is also a short drive from numerous hikes on Mount Tamalpais, Muir Woods, the funky town of Bolinas (they take the signs on Highway 1 down so tourists can't find the place) and of course the unbelievable Point Reyes National Seashore. The community also has access to a truly beautiful stretch of beach with views of the San Francisco in the distance. It is truly a special place that can provide exciting outdoor adventures and extreme relaxation.
First things first, when can we go? The house is available for either April 30-May 3rd, or June 4-7th 2010. So, your task is to assess which of those weekends you could make it to sunny California and let me know so we can 1) Book the house with Lucy's parents and 2) figure out whether we will need additional sleeping quarters.Lucy's house can sleep 13 in beds (if people share beds and if some share rooms) so if we have more then that we will need to rent another house in the community. These house go FAST so it would be prudent to know whether we will need to look into reserving one ASAP. If we do need to rent a second house I think it will be pretty affordable if all of us split the cost of the second house even if we are actually sleeping in Lucy's family house. Since all the activities are also free or very cheap, we are hoping that this reunion can be recession friendly.
So, please write to me as soon as you can and let me know if either of these weekends work for you. Once we get the weekend nailed down we can move on to other logistics etc. Keep in mind that Stinson Beach is easily accessible from both the Oakland and San Francisco International Airports.
